Pacific Cloud Seafoods is a group of stewards working to provide the highest-quality seafood to Western New York while supporting small fishing fleets in Kodiak, Alaska. We have worked hard to put together an effective and efficient team who is passionate about our mission to connect like-minded consumers with conscious, values-oriented producers. That being said, meet our awesome team!
Ryan Horwath grew up in Rochester, New York, and now lives in Buffalo with his partner, Valerie, and daughter Ava. When he's not in Western New York, he's on a small boat jigging for cod and rockfish in the pristine waters off Kodiak, Alaska.
In October 2003, Ryan and his dad, Joe, moved to Kodiak Alaska to carry on his family's fishing tradition, taking the reins of his Uncle Steve's fishing business after a sudden accident took his life. Uncle Steve was the legend who first introduced Ryan to Alaska and the joys of fishing. It was Steve who brought the Pacific Cloud to Alaska's Dutch Harbor to jig cod—and the rest is, as they say, history.
Valerie Millard & Ava
Valerie, also a Rochester native, hopped into the entrepreneurial world early in life, running a successful massage therapy business for over 15 years in downtown Buffalo. Her business skills have been invaluable in the development of Pacific Cloud as well as her tenacious dedication to quality, nourishing, traceable foods.
Her passion for health, family and community was heightened with the arrival of Ava, Pacific Cloud’s littlest steward! They spend their days watching what goes on their plates, enjoying the farmers market community, and hitting the playground.
Business Manager & Marketing Director
Merrill is an Austin, Texas native, a graduate of Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi, but now a proud Western New York dweller.
Merrill is an avid Buffalo Bills fan and has a deep love for fly fishing. Her interest in sustainable food and waterways is what drew her into the appeal of Pacific Cloud Seafoods and she enjoys working with companies that care about their impact on our fisheries.
Inventory and Farmer's Market Associate
Kaitlyn, aka Kat, is our operations manager and part of our farmers market crew. A Buffalo State College 2015 graduate, she became interested in working at Pacific Cloud Seafoods because of her love for seafood, especially shellfish like crab and scallops.
She loves trying any and every new food item and recipe, plus she loves to learn all she can about sustainable fishing and the aspects of owning a small, and hopefully, someday huge, business.
When she’s not working or at home with her four cats, she is adventuring outside, biking, camping, and being creative.
Farmer's Market Director & Culinary Assistant
Grace is our Farmer’s Market Director. She currently attends Canisius, studying International Relations, English, and European Studies. She loves skiing, running, and traveling, but cooking is her favorite hobby of all!
Grace got hooked on wild-caught seafood after a poor personal health experience with farmed fish and has been dedicated to spreading awareness on the difference ever since. Her favorite dish is sockeye salmon, prepared with a little salt and paprika in a cast iron pan, and of course, the skin is the best part!
Kim grew up right in Buffalo, relishing in fish fry Fridays and the sense of community. She graduated from Buffalo State College with a B.A. in design and an M.A. in fine arts, but she traded her canvas and oil paints for sauces and flavors as she found joy in meshing her love of food with creativity.
She attended culinary school focusing on the French Escoffier classics, where she learned to appreciate taste, visual appeal, and working with a team.
Kim joined the Pacific Cloud crew following her commitment to sustainable food-sourcing, hard work, and dedication to the greater good.
Renata had the fortune of spending over a decade near the Alaskan waters, soaking up the rugged beauty of the land and the local fishing culture.
A former Cooperative Business Developer, she chose to pursue creativity full-time by earning an M.A. in Graphic Design and now serves as our in-house visual communicator. She is passionate about stewardship of the Commons (particularly our oceans and all creatures in them) and creating beautiful and harmonious communities through healthy food and employee-ownership ventures.
When she is not drawing fish, she can be found orchestrating one co-op project or three at anddesign.org.
